Putting into music what cannot be put into words. This is what the Freiburg-based singer Nogood Luna and producer Björn Peng do about the Syrian civil war. The two found together for their own band Totengeläut after the successful collaboration on the Track At Night on Björn Peng‘s album Dark Rave, which we released back in the dark days of 2014. The album is a summary of what Nogood Luna experienced while working with Syrian refugees in the Turkish border region and other places: sorrow and despair – This is what the album title, Aleppo, stands for.
In their seven songs, Björn Peng and Nogood Luna draw musically from the sound of current Dark Wave bands. The cool synthesizer melodies, reduced bass drum beats and softly fading vocals are reminiscent of Lebanon Hanover, Linea Aspera and Boy Harsher.
The official version will be released via Anette Records (200 transparent vinyl / white cover). Reach Another System releases a version with an alternative cover and other specials.
I have not enjoyed an entire album the way I am enjoying Linea Aspera LP II, since the debuts of TR/ST, Austra, and The Organ (Entropy reminds me of them <3 ). And the last time I loved a sophomore album as much, if not more, as the debut was nearly 20 years ago.
It's simply incredible, deep, moving, and touching. Alison and Ryan, thank you for sharing all of these things. You two are explosive together! <3 kling_klang
